Structural & Foundation Engineering Design
Integrated engineering solutions for complex infrastructure.
Metro Group Consultancy & Design was appointed to provide the structural and foundation engineering design for a temporary bridge in Sleaford.
The project required a coordinated engineering solution covering the steel bridge superstructure, supporting beams, pile caps and piled foundations.
Our engineering team developed the bridge arrangement from the proposed geometry and loading requirements, coordinating the superstructure and foundation elements to provide a complete design solution.
The design was developed using Tekla software, allowing the structural arrangement, member sizes, connections and foundation interfaces to be accurately modelled and coordinated.
Metro Group Consultancy & Design provided the structural and foundation engineering design for the temporary bridge.
The engineering scope included:
The bridge was developed as an integrated structural system, with loads transferred through the steel superstructure and supporting elements into the pile caps and piled foundations.
Tekla software was used to develop and coordinate the bridge structural model.
The 3D model enabled the engineering team to review the overall bridge arrangement, main girders, cross girders, supporting members and interfaces between the superstructure and foundations.
This provided a coordinated basis for the detailed calculations and construction drawings and helped identify potential interface issues before the design was issued.
Temporary bridge structural model developed using Tekla
The foundation design was developed in conjunction with the bridge superstructure so that the complete load path could be considered within the engineering solution.
The design included the pile arrangement, pile caps and interface between the foundations and structural steelwork.
Detailed drawings were produced showing the bridge foundation plan, pile positions, pile cap geometry and reinforcement requirements.
The design package was developed to provide clear and coordinated information for construction. Metro Group produced the structural calculations, Tekla model, general arrangement drawings, foundation layout, sections and pile-cap details required for the temporary bridge works. Coordination between the superstructure and foundation design allowed the complete bridge system to be developed as one integrated engineering package.
