The Process of CFA Piling

Continuous Flight Augur (CFA) piling is a replacement method where piles are formed by drilling to the required depth using a hollow stem continuous flight auger. Once the target depth is reached, concrete is pumped through the auger’s hollow core while the auger is gradually withdrawn at a controlled pace.

As the auger is extracted, soil arisings are brought to the surface and cleared, leaving behind a column of freshly placed concrete extending up to the working platform level. A reinforcement cage, tailored to the specific project design, is then inserted into the wet concrete to complete the pile.

Frequently Asked Questions !

What is CFA piling, and when is it used?

CFA (Continuous Flight Auger) piling is a method of creating deep foundations by drilling and pouring concrete in a single continuous process. It’s commonly used in construction projects where minimal vibration and noise are required, such as in urban or sensitive environments.

CFA piling offers several benefits, including fast installation, low noise and vibration levels, and suitability for a wide range of soil conditions. It also allows for high load-bearing capacities and reduces the risk of ground settlement.

The depth of CFA piles depends on the project requirements and ground conditions, but they typically range from 5 to 30 meters. Deeper piles can be achieved with specialized equipment and techniques.

CFA piles are effective in most soil conditions, including soft clays, sands, silts, and gravels. However, extremely dense or rocky soils may require alternative piling methods. A ground investigation is always conducted before selecting the most suitable technique.
