Bridge Piling & Engineering Design
Metro Group was appointed to provide an integrated engineering design and piling solution for a new bridge at Little Hale Fen.
The project combined specialist structural and geotechnical engineering with the installation of deep foundations.
Metro Consultancy & Design undertook the bridge design, slope stability analysis and associated engineering assessments, while Metro Piling Group delivered the CFA piling works on site.
This coordinated approach allowed the bridge structure, ground conditions and foundation requirements to be considered together from design through to construction.

The slope stability analysis formed an important part of the engineering assessment due to the bridge location and surrounding ground profile. The analysis was used to verify the stability of the proposed works and inform the final bridge and foundation design.
CFA pile installation at Little Hale Fen
Metro Piling Group installed CFA piles to provide the deep foundation support for the new bridge.
The piling package included mobilisation of the CFA piling rig and associated plant, concrete placement, reinforcement cage installation, pile installation records and quality control.
Long reinforcement cages were prepared on site and carefully installed into the freshly concreted piles in accordance with the project design.
The rural location required careful planning of working platforms, access routes, concrete deliveries, reinforcement storage and heavy plant movements.
The piling rig, concrete pump, reinforcement cages and supporting plant were coordinated to maintain an efficient installation sequence while ensuring safe working throughout the piling operations.
