The Process of Vibro Stone Columns

Vibro Stone Columns are a ground improvement method used to strengthen weak or compressible soils. A vibrating probe penetrates the ground to the required treatment depth, assisted by vibration and, where necessary, air or water. Clean, well-graded stone is then introduced into the formed cavity.The probe is repeatedly raised and lowered to compact the stone in controlled stages, creating a dense column while also improving the surrounding soil. The completed columns increase bearing capacity, reduce settlement and provide improved drainage. A designed stone column arrangement is installed across the treatment area to support the proposed foundations or ground-bearing slab.

The Process of Controlled Modulus Columns (CMC)

Controlled Modulus Columns (CMC) are rigid ground improvement inclusions used to strengthen weak or compressible soils and reduce total and differential settlement. A displacement auger is advanced to the required depth, pushing the surrounding soil sideways with minimal spoil generated at the surface.As the auger is withdrawn, a controlled cementitious grout or concrete mix is pumped through the hollow stem to form a continuous column. The columns are installed to a designed depth, diameter and spacing and are normally connected to the structure through an engineered load transfer platform. CMCs improve the stiffness of the ground and allow structural loads to be distributed safely without the columns being directly connected to the foundations.
